“In Progress” is a focused, quietly compelling studio scene — a figure bent over a work surface in deep concentration, her burnt orange smock glowing warmly against a cool backdrop of blues and scraped grays. Scherer captures the physicality of creative work with angular, confident brushstrokes that define the figure's posture and weight without over-explaining it. The surrounding environment is loose and fragmented, studio elements dissolving into abstraction at the edges, keeping all attention on the act of making. The result is a painting about process as much as subject — absorbed, purposeful, and alive with the particular energy of work being done. Scherer studied with NW Master William Cumming, whom she met at the Art Institute of Seattle, in 1984. His influence was instrumental in her understanding of color, design and its use in painting. Amy passes along years of experience and wisdom to her own students now as well as pursuing her full time career as a professional artist in Washington State.
