Amanda McLaurin

Textile Artist

San Francisco, California

After a successful career as an event planner in Raleigh and Seattle, Amanda relocated to Semarang, Indonesia in 2015. While living there she spent every available weekend exploring villages specializing in traditional Indonesian textiles including batik, ikat and lurik. She returned to the US eager to build her art practice and began teaching fiber workshops. With a desire to create pieces that were both fiber based and sculptural, she began wrapping wooden panels with wool and mercerized cotton. She loves exploring unexpected color stories and gathers inspiration from vintage quilt squares which are mimicked in the patterns of her color blocks.
