Back Amanda McLaurin Textile Artist San Francisco, California Amanda McLaurin’s path to fiber art is woven with curiosity, travel, and a deep appreciation for tradition. After a successful career in event planning in Raleigh and Seattle, Amanda relocated to Semarang, Indonesia in 2015. There, she spent her weekends immersed in the rich heritage of Indonesian textiles—studying the intricacies of batik, ikat, and lurik in the very villages where they are made. Returning to the U.S. inspired and eager to create, Amanda began teaching fiber workshops and developing her own sculptural approach to textile art. Her current work combines wool and mercerized cotton, hand-wrapped around wooden panels in compositions that honor both form and color. Drawing inspiration from vintage quilt squares, Amanda explores unexpected color relationships and rhythmic patterning, bringing a fresh, tactile perspective to a timeless medium.
