Multimedia Artist

Oak Harbor, Washington

Maze artist Leslie Stoner grew up on a farm in the deep woods of Northwest Montana and currently resides on Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest. Her work reflects the duality of these environments, capturing the contrast between the grounded, rooted earth and the expansive skies above. As an abstract artist, Stoner is continually engaged with the intersection of what lies beneath the surface and what hovers above, exploring the space where the two meet.

Her intricate maze-like creations blur the lines of perception, with forms that teeter between various shapes—leaf, wing, petal, butterfly, wave, wind, and steam, to name a few. Stoner’s use of archival inks and paints on Birch panels results in large-scale works that are meditative in their process. The deliberate, slow nature of this practice encourages a calming, focused state of mind, which she considers essential to her creative flow.

Stoner holds a Bachelor of Arts from Cornish College of the Arts, where she majored in both Painting and Photography. She also managed the professional studios of renowned painters Betsy Eby and Bo Bartlett, further honing her craft. Stoner’s work is featured in numerous public and private collections and showcased across the United States, where it continues to captivate viewers with its layered, tranquil complexity.
