Seth Sexton

Seth Sexton is a Seattle-based multimedia artist whose current work centers on hyper-detailed pen and ink drawings. Drawing on his meditative practice and the study of indigenous wisdom, he creates with purpose, offering each viewer a moment of reflection.

Raised on a farm in Chimacum, Washington, Seth balanced the physical labor of farm life with the discipline of ballet. He studied biochemistry at the University of Washington before earning a BFA in painting, then collaborated with metal artist Cathy McClure as SID INC., making multimedia installations that included a public piece at Sea-Tac International Airport and sparked international partnerships.

He later spent three years in Panajachel, Guatemala, studying Tzu’tu’jil and the indigenous arts and rituals of the Mayan people of the Atitlán region. Back in Seattle, he has brought his collaborative multimedia choreographies to Velocity Dance Center, On the Boards and Jack Straw New Media Gallery, and his work continues to merge visual art, ritual and performance.

Seth earned an MFA in Critical Performance Theory and Painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2021. His recent work has been shown at MANA Contemporary in Chicago, and he received a Vermont Studio Center fellowship. He also co-curates Form Over Function, our annual figurative exhibition.
