"Blue Cake" by Zachary Schomburg is a colored pencil work on black linen archival paper from his Lost Mornings series — landscapes made on consecutive mornings at the close of 2025, each a study for a potential larger painting. This one departs from the series' outdoor register entirely, turning its attention to a celebration: a blue-frosted layer cake, a slice already removed and plated in the lower left, the interior revealed in warm layered browns and golds. Cherries dot the top, whipped cream rosettes ring the edges, and the whole scene is rendered in the waxy, built-up light that colored pencil on dark paper uniquely produces — each color earned rather than given, glowing against the black ground. It is a still life with the warmth and slight strangeness of a dream remembered over breakfast.

Seattle Art Source procures artists for our roster proactively, and we generally do not accept unsolicited submissions. However, we do review all inquiries monthly for potential future projects or open calls.
Due to the high volume of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond individually to every submission. If there is a potential fit now, or in the future, we will reach out to that artist.
However, we love following artists on social, meeting artists at artwalk, hosting community events, and amplifying art content.
We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase and are happy to help resolve any issues once your artwork is received.
Due to the one-of-a-kind nature of our artwork, pieces may be exchanged for Seattle Art Source credit within 3 days of purchase, provided the work is returned in the condition it was received.
Non-commissioned artwork purchased online is eligible for an exchange within 7 days of receipt. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the purchaser.
Please note: Commissioned artwork, sale items, and photography prints are final sale and not eligible for exchange.
