“EB in White Blouse” is a large, commanding full-length portrait of a figure standing directly before the viewer, her voluminous white blouse and pale trousers luminous against a restless backdrop of scraped grays, dark foliage, and architectural fragments. The face is rendered with angular directness — steady, unguarded, and unapologetic — while the environment around her dissolves into layered marks and jagged brushwork that suggest an overgrown, semi-abandoned setting. The contrast between the figure's crisp whites and the moody, fragmented surroundings gives the painting its tension — a person holding their ground in a space that seems to be receding around them. It's a portrait with real presence and a rugged, unsentimental confidence. Scherer studied with NW Master William Cumming, whom she met at the Art Institute of Seattle, in 1984. His influence was instrumental in her understanding of color, design and its use in painting. Amy passes along years of experience and wisdom to her own students now as well as pursuing her full time career as a professional artist in Washington State.
