Zachary Schomburg is a painter working with acrylics who is inspired by the loose energy and bright masses of artists like Helen Frankenthaler and Etel Adnan. For Schomburg, who is also a poet, painting is an act of letting go, of sustaining surprise, and of listening. His more recent series, Santa Anita, is sparked by the colors and shapes he found in an old section of the Santa Anita racetrack on a recent trip there with his father. Schomburg is also the author of 6 books of poems, a novel, and a publisher of an independent poetry press. He lives in Portland, Oregon, with B and Y.
