Fallen Camellias

• Archival print on rag paper

“Fallen Camellias” is a striking, close-to-the-ground photograph of camellia blooms scattered across a concrete sidewalk — some still vivid pink and freshly dropped, others browning at the edges in various stages of fading, the whole scene cascading outward from the dark shrub above like a natural still life in motion. Fitts shoots straight down into the composition, eliminating any horizon and turning the sidewalk into a stage, the fallen flowers arranged by no one and yet perfectly considered. The interplay between the vibrant pink of the fresh blooms and the warm rust of the older ones gives the image a quiet meditation on time and transience — beauty caught not at its peak, but in the honest, unhurried process of letting go.
