“Yellow Sweater” is a large, atmospheric composition featuring two figures suspended in a deep, dark field of navy and black — one upright with eyes closed, the other inverted, both surrounded by loosely painted pink blooms that drift through the scene like a fever dream. The warm golden yellow of the sweater cuts through the darkness with striking force, drawing the eye and anchoring the work's emotional center. Scherer layers gestural marks, scattered flecks of light, and bold floral forms to build a surface that feels simultaneously nocturnal and luminous. The result is a painting that operates somewhere between the real and the imagined — dreamlike, charged, and impossible to look away from. Scherer studied with NW Master William Cumming, whom she met at the Art Institute of Seattle, in 1984. His influence was instrumental in her understanding of color, design and its use in painting. Amy passes along years of experience and wisdom to her own students now as well as pursuing her full time career as a professional artist in Washington State.
