“Storm Brewing” by Ash Oaksmith is a striking landscape painting. The piece features a dramatic, cloud-filled sky rendered in rich layers of blue, gray, and warm golden tones, creating a powerful sense of atmosphere and depth. The textured brushwork adds dimension and movement, with light breaking through the clouds to cast a subtle glow across the scene. Below, a dark, earthy foreground with hints of reflective water provides a grounding contrast, enhancing the luminosity above. Bold yet refined, this piece brings a moody elegance and contemporary sophistication, making it a compelling focal point for any interior. Ash draws inspiration through travel, memories of childhood summers on the Great Lakes and road trips through the Great Plains states. These experiences are realized through vivid colors and texture in ‘color field landscapes’. Ash’s recent paintings are inspired by the beauty of the Olympic Mountains and Greater Puget Sound Area. Wind plays an essential role in each of her paintings, and it is the interaction of wind in sweeping landscapes that she thinks about during those first brush strokes. There are times that we seek out change and upheaval, like a howling gale, just as there are times when we need complete stillness and order.
